OpenGrader

Grade the whole class in one pass

Set up four things, then press Grade once. Your rubric and the essays are read here in your browser, so what comes back is a fast first take on the grading that you edit before it ever reaches a student.

Nothing you upload is stored on our servers. Your rubric and your students’ writing get read in your browser and sent straight to the AI provider you pick, using your own key. We don’t see it, log it, or keep it. Close the tab and it’s gone.

Your rubric

Files are read in your browser, never uploaded.

What kind of writing is this?

needed

This adds genre-specific checks to the feedback. It never changes your rubric score.

Your API key

needed

An API key is a password-like code that lets OpenGrader send your rubric and essays to an AI model, and bills that usage to you, not us. You paste it once and it stays on your device.

Get a Google Gemini key in about two minutes

This is the one path that is genuinely free. Every Google account gets a no-cost tier that handles a class set fine.

  1. Open aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with any Google account.
  2. Click Create API key, then Create API key in new project.
  3. Copy the key. It starts with AIza.
  4. Come back here, click I already have one, and paste it.

Prefer Claude or GPT? Both work, but both need a payment method on file first. Pick one under I already have one for the link.

The class set

needed

One file per student. .txt, .docx, or .pdf. Everything is read in your browser.

Add your rubric, an essay type, an API key, and at least one student submission to begin.
